2008/10/29 CSEP meeting
Attendees: Yan K., Phil M., John Y., Masha L.
- Kagan-Jackson Smooth Seismisity model for California:
- Masha changed the code to read ZMAP format of input catalog:
- Converted Yan's ANSS catalog to ZMAP format
- Verified that model generates the same forecast when using Yan's ANSS and ZMAP format catalogs
- Masha generated forecast using CSEP generated ANSS input catalog:
- Sent summary of observed percent differences as map to Yan for review
- Yan pointed out to high percent difference for longitude=-120.33 and latitude=35.5
- Masha converted ZMAP format of CSEP generated catalog to Yan's format for easier comparison, and discovered:
Trac ticket https://intensity.usc.edu/trac/csep/ticket/113
Trac ticket https://intensity.usc.edu/trac/csep/ticket/114
- Ticket #113 affects only forecasts that use input ANSS catalogs with start date before January, 1966 (that have missing depth values):
- Jeremy's five-year models
- David Rhoades three-month models
- Ticket #114 affects all input and observation catalogs generated by CSEP
- Yan suggested to meet with Dave and Danijel to discuss rules for input catalog event selection:
- RELM collection area vs. Yan's 500 km window
- Magnitude cut-off at 3.95 vs. presently used 4.0
- Sent summary of observed percent differences as map to Yan for review
- Masha will continue the work on automating the model within CSEP:
- Will use ZMAP format of Yan's input catalog for the acceptance test
- Have to apply scale factors provided by Yan to get magnitude bins for generated forecasts:
Will use M>=3.95 table for short-term and long-term forecasts
Will ignore bins with 3.95<=M<4.95 for long-term forecast
- Long-term and short-term forecasts are matching with less than 0.5% differences compared to Yan's forecast
- Masha changed the code to read ZMAP format of input catalog:
- Upgrade of New Zealand testing center to CSEP V8.10:
- Waiting for Matt to upgrade
- Remaining tasks:
- Danijel will work on GMT script for forecasts maps
- Grid shifting - Danijel suggested to use global grid notation
- Web-viewer for the results, still to be resolved to use:
- Stand-alone web page or
- Introduce as new testing region within existing CSEP results page
- Tasks for CSEP V9.1:
- Masha will send an e-mail to Max asking if he will submit his model:
- One-day ETAS model for California
- Anna Maria has not responded yet if she will work on resolving an issue for SWPacific testing region:
- New csep-devel server reproduces the problem observed on csep-cert
- Kagan-Jackson Smooth Seismisity models for California:
- Long-term (5-year)
- Short-term (1-day)
- Masha will ask Danijel if global testing is scheduled for the release
Toolkit documentation for CSEP
- Source code documentation - to make it available through the web
- Masha will send an e-mail to Max asking if he will submit his model:
- csep-op:
- John said that new hard disk is here, waiting for Maureen from HPCC to bring it on-line
- There are still about 550Gb available which should last for roughly 4 weeks
